» Automated call to your cell phone - "Your Visa Debit Card is inactive."

2/26/2010 — A Phishing attempt, to steal your debit card information, is currently underway in the Bootheel. In this scam — customers at several area area banks have received automated telephone messages on their mobile phones. The messages say the caller is "Your Bank" or "Montgomery Bank. Your Visa Debit is inactive and needs to be reactivated."

To reactivate it:

   • call a certain telephone number and leave a message with your debit card number
   • text a reply with your debit card information
   • type the information on your phone’s keypad.

Kennett National Bank isn't making these calls.

If you receive a call like this:

   • Don't offer personal or account information over the phone without verifying the caller's
     identity.
   • If you are uncertain of the identity of the caller, hang up. Call the bank's main number
     yourself.
   • Do not call a phone number received in a voice message or email that asks for personal
information. It could lead you to a phony answering system.
   • If you receive a call as described, or any call from Kennett National Bank, and are unsure
about the call’s validity, call 573-888-9051 or email us.

» Recognizing Phone Fraud

Never give out personal information over the phone unless you initiate the contact. Be suspicious of the following:

   • Automated messages with urgent requests to verify your account.
   • Voicemails asking you to call a number with an "809", "284", "876" or other international
code. You'll end up with an expensive phone bill.
   • To claim a lottery prize or other winnings, you're asked to dial a two-digit code preceded or
followed by the "#" or "*" key (for example, *79 or 72#) and then an 800 number. This is a
     call-forwarding scam.

Remember: No one at KNB will ever ask you for your Password.
